VoIP and Mobility

Maybe you've already heard of Voice Over Internet Protocol, better known as VoIP. Maybe you haven't. But no matter how familiar you are with this technology, you certainly don't want to miss its next step.

Yes, we all have been waiting for this: VoIP combined with WiFi technology. A unique and revolutionary way of communication, available anywhere, anytime, wherever you are located in the world. Of course VoIP by itself was attractive, but VoWiFi (Voice Over Wireless Fidelity) is much more promising, offering all the VoIP advantages twinned with the essential mobility that a cell phone provides.

Having a Wireless Internet connection and a WiFi mobile phone is all you need, but some providers are now commercializing the possibility to benefits from VoIP extremely low rates using your regular GSM cell phone, your office land line or even a public pay phone. Their ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) is designed to recognize your call through a PIN and route it to VoIP network. It's that simple!

Since it's a very recent technology, a few shortcomings remain, especially in the quality of sound. Although significantly beyond the quality that a cell phone GSM network generates, WiFi sound performances can be slightly inferior to the standard landline telephone ones. On the other hand, this issue should disappear shortly with the coming of the "wideband" sound, providing a so far unequalled listening comfort. Furthermore, the sound source spatialization system (3D surround sound), allowing you to place the people you are talking to in different "places" inside the headset, will certainly make conference calls easier.
