How to Prepare Your Business For Voice Over IP
You know that in today's business world, staying on the cutting edge of technology is vital to competitive growth, which is why you have decided to switch your old fashioned landline phone service to VOIP.
Technology changes fast and it can be a challenge to keep up, which is why it is important to use the following checklist to help you make sure that your network and Internet infrastructure are ready for VOIP phone service deployment.
One of the first things to consider is the wiring. Leftover Category 3 wiring from when a 10Mbits second Ethernet connection was considered cutting edge probably will not be enough to support your new VoIP telephony connections, and depending on how much of your wiring needs to be replaced, you may want to consider adding a separate wiring plant for your telephone usage. The best wiring for VOIP internet phone service is Cat 5e or Cat 6, but an installation specialist will be able to advise you further, and answer any further wiring questions that you may have.
Next on the checklist should be supporting remote users. Of course, one of the best features of VoIP is the fact that, just like your laptop, your business phone can be wireless. This is no't cell phone quality wireless either, with static and dropped calls, but clear, crisp, broadband internet wireless of the quality that you can only get from VOIP.
To get this wireless feature, your business will need to obtain a VOIP PBX that is able to support remote users. Luckily for you, most VOIP companies already have this integrated into their corporate phone service plans, it is a definite plus to purchase your service from a company that has this built in feature to reduce headaches and unnecessary problems. With telephone communications such a critical part of any business it is extremely important to pick a plan and a company that will best match the needs of your company.
The last consideration should be choosing your new phone. Of course, you could keep your old phone, but what is the fun in that? Especially when you consider all the features that new phones have and are also designed to work seamlessly with your new VOIP service. From standard phones, to digital conference phones, to the latest innovations, it can all be quite overwhelming. You have enough things to worry about and your phone service should not be one of them so definitely choose a company that provides seamless.
